David Price ER???
So if a guy hits a triple and then scores on a missed catch, why is that considered an earned run????
-
Either way, Price was not very impressive tonight. He hurt me a little. He's a good pitcher, but the AL East is gonna be tough... Still, I expect a high win total playing for Tampa this year...

my guess is that rios would have scored off the fly out which was the very next out

since the baserunner reached base safely, (meaning without error) if the baserunner then scores, regardless of how, it counts as an earned run

Even if the player reaches base without an error, his run may still be unearned if the official scorer determines so. If he would not have scored if an error was not made, then his run would be an unearned run.
-
a run is always un earned on an error... and every run after that in that inning as well... the reason it is not earned because if he would have been on 3rd base and then he strikes out too he wouldnt have let it score but cause the ERROR occured it then is not his fault.. he may have been able to prevent that

It is up to the official scorer to determine if that player would have scored anyway had that error not occur.
-
I am not sure if you are correct. Only runs scored after the inning would have ended on the error are considered unearned.
suppose there are two outs and a guy hits a triple and scores on the LF throwing error. It would be unearned if the next batter makes an out. If the next batter hits a HR then both runs are earned.
If a guy reaches base on an error and later scores that run is unearned. If the next bunch of batters hit and score with less than two outs then those runs are earned.

I didn't see the game. Was the fielding error on a subsequent play. If there were less than two outs then the official scorer could say that Rios would have scored anyway.
-
I hear you. I started Price tonight too. That didn't make any sense to me either...
