Commissioner Corner Message Board
Look at this bullshit! My trigger-happy Commish just vetoed this trade after our draft...
Team A (me) gives up:
Team B (other guy) gives up:
The trade was based on team B not being competitive in Saves, having no back-up for Chipper, and Posada already at Catcher. I have a surplus of power and could spare Wilson for a more sure thing in Saves. The Commishes' rationale was that I was "stacking" closers" even though he has more than me, He also insisted that Downs was a full on closer and that Team B's manager would not stick around til after June. Totally bogus reasons! Comments welcome.

Shocking reply Dave... All position players are Starters. All are ballers. CJ Lewis is more valuable than Downs, and arguably Doumit. But the fact that you feel the trade favors one team or another should not make for a veto... should it? Fairness has to do with how the deal was arrived at and that no cheating was invloved, not keeping some kind of subjective balance based on a narrow baseball perspective. Good trades happen and bad trades happen equally, neither are unfair, they just don't work out for someone sometimes, that does not make them unfair.
Naturally I would want the trade to go through if I were you as well. But I do agree to the imbalance (rough estimate). You didn't include categories/scoring, so it's REALLY HARD to say how much value you are giving up or getting.
Rolen is the only player whom I see as being drafted in a standard 5x5 league with 12 or more teams. With the other team, Downs is going to be drafted probably 75% of the time while the others are definitely going to be chosen... most likely Valverde in top 15 rounds and Doumit top 15-20. Rolen might not even go that high... he would fall in the 20-25 round range.... if at all. He is injury prone and doesn't come back well after one. Venable? I'd take Scott Hairston before him any day. Both of those would be free agents in 12 or less team leagues... and possibly on 15-16 team leagues.
You could probably swap a REAL player (Top 100-150 Yahoo) to swing that trade.
Seriously man, look at their rankings comparatively and say it's a fair and balanced trade. Not arguing that you aren't providing him players he may need and vice-versa.

Definitely understood, and thanks for the thoughtful reply. It is a 18 team league and Rolen vs Valverdes values are comparable in league value ranking 152 vs 133.
The configuration is: Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL
Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Hits (H), Doubles (2B), Triples (3B), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Intentional Walks (IBB), Batting Average (AVG), Extra Base Hits (XBH), Net Stolen Bases (NSB)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Innings Pitched (IP), Wins (W), Complete Games (CG), Shutouts (SHO), Saves (SV), Earned Runs (ER), Home Runs (HR), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Strikeouts per Nine Innings (K/9), Net Saves (NSV)
So guys perhaps thought of as fringe are much more valuable... additionally both Rolen and Venable will be way more valuable than Scott Hairston, cmon dude. and the fact that there is debate only adds to the concept that the trade is inherenty legit and should not be vetoed. How it favors is subjective. Vetos are to be objective. Oh and BTW Valverde aint putting up last year's numbers in the AL vs the NL last year and no Edwin Jackson on the Tiger staff. I think people are brainwashed by Yahoo's rankings into not thinking things through for themselves..
