  • is there a mediator for trades in public?

    nobody by nobody . Jun 22, 2009 5:45 PM . Permalink

There is a pending trade in my public league. It appears to be somewhat lopsided. It also appears that a team in the basement is unloading solid players to the curent 1st place team. I know that the typical manner is that at least 4 managers need to vote against to veto a trade. Unfortunately, I don't think 4 people are paying attention to the league. Here is the pending trade: AAron Hill and Russell Martin for Brian Roberts and Jonathan Broxton. I would like to see the trade erased by a yahoo authority if possible. If anyone has advice, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks

That trade seems totally reasonable to me.

First of all, Martin is just having a slow start, and a couple seasons of good/consistent play kind of go against your "flash in a pan" comment. Let's look at some other players who have a similar (or lower) BA to Martin:

      Vernon Wells
      Lance Berkman
      BJ Upton
      Alfonso Soriano
      Jimmy Rollins
      Alex Rodriguez
      Garret Atkins

Are these guys all flashes too? Sorry, but some people start off slow, and there's a reason he was drafted so high.

As for Hill, check out some lines:
2006- 70/6/50/.291 (Admittedly, some low numbers with a crummy team, but a good average)
      2007- 87/17/78/.291

I'm sorry, but you don't know what he is and is not capable of, and you certainly can't say that he's playing way above his level when he's entering his prime, has really had only one off year, and is a career .287 hitter (short as this career may be).

Totally fair trade, and if anything, the guy getting Martin and Hill has the chance to get the better end of this deal. You going to claim that I don't watch baseball either?

Soriano may be showing his age, especially with no protection right now.
If you watch baseball regularly, you know that Atkins is sitting on the bench right now. And in all four leauge that I am in this year, he is on the FA.

Finally, the yahoo rankings mean nothing. Lasting Millidge among others was ranked in the top 100 and is not even on a roster. Many other examples, Howiew Kendrick, is another. For some reason the yahoo guys love unproven prospects or young players and rank them way higher than they shoulb be. That only makes sense if youre in a keeper leauge.

Are you serious? Or do you even watch baseball? Hill is playing way over his head and Martin was a flash in the pan.....to trade those 2 for a proven Roberts and the top closer in the game is ridiculous. Anyway, I wanted to know if there was a mediator. By the way, were you the guy in the league offering the trade? You tool.

I do think the trade is a little imbalanced. Martin hasn't done Jack all year, and isn't looking like he will either. Plus if you are in a one catcher leauge and 12 or less teams, there should be some decent catchers performing better than Martin on waivers. Plus, Broxton is one of top closers in the leauge, and there is probably no full-time closers on your FA list (until trade deadline).

I don't think Yahoo can do anything. One way to get your Leauges attention is to post a message with a title like "VETO THIS TRADE!" and then state your reasons in the text. That's the best you do.

Trade is not the problem here...the problem is with playing in a public league.

I think it safe to say that a good percentage of players sign up for a public league just to be able to experience the draft process. Once they get their draft fix, you never see any activity from them the rest of the season.

In a 10 team public league you will be lucky to have 50% participating.

Start your own league. Post on "Commissioner's Corner". Interview possible manager candidates. You'll be surprised at what a great group you can find for a league.
