Does anyone have any insight on the stat results of the fumble play in the StL TB game. Here is the play by play:
2nd and 10 at STL 20 (Shotgun) S.Bradford pass short right to D.Amendola to SL 23 for 3 yards (L.Johnson). FUMBLES (L.Johnson), RECOVERED by TB-L.Johnson at SL 17. L.Johnson to SL 16 for 1 yard (B.Richardson). FUMBLES (B.Richardson), RECOVERED by SL-R.Turner at SL 5. R.Turner to SL 5 for no gain (M.Foster).
The way I read it, he had a reception for 3 yards and then fumbled. The stat folks gave him -3 yards, which would represent where the TB player recovered the fumble. The 6 yards difference breaks the tie in the championship game in our league.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Gave it more thought. I'm thinking he gets -3 since, as you noted, the ball was actually recovered 6 yds from where he caught it, so possession didn't officially change until TB picked it up, therefore the last person to have the ball, Amendola, is responsible for the ball until that point. If the Rams had recovered it wouldn't make sense to credit him for a 3 yd reception if, after the play ended, the Rams had LOST 3 yards.
Hopefully someone can confirm.
