    Negative points for team defenses

Does a blocked field goal returned for a TD give the kicking team negative points against their defense?

    • It depends on how your league has defensive pts allowed set up. In our league your defense can only lose pts when they are on the field. For example, if a qb throws a pick six then his defense does not lose pts. If your league goes by total pts scored, regardless of how, then those pts scored count.

    • Hi Brad,

Is this in reference to the Chicago vs. Arizona game? Our league championship today was based on the outcome of that play. The team who had the Chicago defense was winning 129 (team A) to 121 (Team B) prior to that play. The other team had the Arizona defense. The result of that play was team B going to 129 points and team A going to 125 points and that is how the matchup ended. If Chicago's defense was not charged those additional points, there would have been a tie 129 to 129 and team A would have won due to the tie breakers. I would have thought that this blocked field goal and touchdown would have resulted in no loss of points for the Chicago defense, as Chicago's offense was on the field. When Chicago scored their two touchdowns off of turnovers against Arizona, points were not charged against Arizona's defense.

Does anyone else have any thoughts and know what is going on?

      • Not sire what specifically happened in the play in question, did Arizona block Chicago's FG? Depending on league scoring, default is -2 points I believe, so Chicago would lose 2 and Arizona gain +2 for the blocked FG and 6 for the TD. Check your league scoring and also the game's box score, if it is wrong changes can come through overnight or with official stat corrections on Wednesday.
