Im considering adding total yards allowed by a D/ST in a game as negative points. Just wanted to know do any of guys do that in your leagues and is it common in fantasy leagues to do that?

I wouldn't say it's common, but there are many leagues that do it (I like it). In one of my leagues it goes like this:
0-99 yards allowed is +6 points
100-199 yards is +3 points
200-299 yards is +1 point
300-399 yards is -1 point
400 -499 yards is - 3 points
500+ yards is - 6 points
Leagues might do the actual scoring differently, but this setup seems to be fairly standard- View Replies

I do it in both my leagues, with negative point penalties though. I also credit the DEF for making 3 and outs, and 4th down stops. DEF/ST get 3 more points for TD's too than offensive players, cause I believe that DEF scores are absolute game and momentum changers on the field, and should have similar impact in fantasy. My leagues aren't driven by defenses like you would think, but the settings give them a more balanced impact in fantasy matchups.

Points are subtracted from the 10 points they are 'spotted' in my leagues. Actual Negative points are charged at 35 points. I like my Defense to be a factor in the outcome. Defenses can score as much as a good RB in most cases. If I don't get 20 points a game something is wrong.
I have tweaked my settings over the past years and seem to have found a happy medium.
Try this....and let the league know first... go in and change your Def settings for THIS year and see if it has the desired effects. It will change all the scores for the year and you can go back a look if your new settings do what you want them to do. And you will see what a difference in settings would have had on the outcomes. Just BE SURE to write down all your old setting and everyones totals and scores this week first so you can change them all back again. Anyway... here are my D/ST settings.
Sack 2
Interception 2
Fumble Recovery 2
Touchdown 6
Safety 2
Block Kick 2
Return Yards 20 yards per point
Kickoff and Punt Return Touchdowns 6
Points Allowed 0 points 10
Points Allowed 1-6 points 8
Points Allowed 7-13 points 6
Points Allowed 14-20 points 4
Points Allowed 21-27 points 2
Points Allowed 28-34 points 01
Points Allowed 35+ points -2
And fractional points so every yard counts.
Good Luck. -

i suppose i could be called a purist. i prefer to keep the game as close to the 'real' game as possible. if , for instance...Houston allows 1000 yards in a game, but holds the team scoreless...why should they have negative points for the yardage? stats like this are intersting to look at...but don't necessarily have anything to do with the outcome of the game. NE's def allows a ton of yardage...but they don't allow a lot of points. that's why they'll probably go to another Super Bowl.

How many points would you guys give a D/ST for a 4th down stop? And Punt and Kickoff return yardage how many yards until you get 1 point.
