Playoff spots in a league with divisions
Im a commissioner for a 10 team league with divisions, how do i set it up where the top 3 teams in each division advance to the playoffs instead of the top 6 teams with the best records?
example:
there is a team in 7th place in our league but he has the third best record in his division of 5 teams
meanwhile the other division has teams in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th...-
Even though the point is moot (you can't do it that way), why on earth would you change the playoff settings right before the playoffs? The rules you did choose and the hard-coded rules have been set one way all season and to change them now would mean screwing over someone that made it based on those rules. If you made an error and told people it would be one way, just let them know you made a mistake and misunderstood how playoff positions are awarded and don't change policy right at the end of the season.

Can't do that. If you want the top 6 teams overall you shouldn't have set up divisions.

You can't. If you want it set up that way, go play somewhere else.

Shouldn't the division winners and the next four teams with best records advance? That's how NFL does it... 4 division winners and next two teams with best record advancing...
