    Commish Advice

Excellent advise!! I used the Commissioner's Note feature that stated the rules and regulations of the league and left it up all season long as means of 'putting it in writing'. Be as TRANSPARENT as a window and you'll earn the trust of your owners. As a woman commish, I had all men on my league, most were complete strangers in my public league. And I am happy to say I didn't have a 'dick' among them. We had an excellent season and 85% will be returning next year..sadly 3 leaving for health reasons :(

    • good to hear you had no probs, Mary! i dont want to come across as sexist by any means...but i can't help wondering if the fact that you're a woman contributed to the absence of "dicks" in your room? i'd never thought about it...but with all the testesterone flowing with a league filled with guys....by nature, we guys tend to treat each other with much less respect than we would normally treat someone of the opposite sex. maybe the answer is: by all means...appoint a female commish!!!!!!!!!! happy new year!

      • No I don't think it's sexist and it's a valid point you bring up. The best way I can explain it to you I'd have to use an occurrence that happens most times than not. Picture a group of neighbors at a block party. Most times the women are with the kids doing whatever, and the guys are together in their group somewhere having their conversation. When a woman comes over to that group of guys, say to talk to her husband or boyfriend, the tone and/or subject usually comes down a notch or two. Human nature. Men tend to carry themselves differently when a woman enters 'in the room'. I agree that the men in my league may have carried themselves differently than if they joined a league led by a man. Their emails to me all this week have mentioned it's been a refreshing league, no profanity, good clean fun. I had guys who were between 25-65. So I have a great age range and most have been playing for 10+ years. So they know their stuff. I have an opening if you want to play. That way YOU can see the difference firsthand. Would you like to do that?

    • Get everyones money before the draft if possible. But if yu have a couple managers stall on you let them know they will not recieve any payouts or make the playoffs if league dues aren't paid before playoffs start. post the rules before the season starts and stick with it. Have the championship be wk 16. Too many teams don't play their starters in wk 17 to have that be the deciding game of the playoffs. We like to award a weekly bonus of $5-$10 for the team with the highest total for that wk. Keeps the managers eliminated from playoffs a little more into the action because they still have a chance at some money. And gives everyone a chance to win some money. 6 of the 10 managers in my league got back some money this year.We only do this for the regular season though wks 1-14. Even though we play a head to head schedule and give money to the standings winner, we also award a big chunk of the money to the top two teams that scored the most pts throughout the regular season. Because those were truely the best two teams over the enitre season. What matters most in fantasy football is scoring pts so we award those teams that score the most. I know it would seem like it would be the teams that finished 1st and 2nd in the standings but it is rarely that case. For instance this year the #2 in scoring finished 7th in standings and didn't even make the playoffs. Main thing is be honest and don't play favorites. Have fun and keep it fun. Even though money is involved it is still not life or death.
