with only keeping 4...i'm only keeping hitters and letting my pitchers go back into the draft. here's a list of potential keepers
M. Caberera ---ended up getting him through a trade by giving up E. Longoria and M. Harvey.
R. Braun --- my original 1st round pick, picked up Miggy when Braun was officially done.
These 2 are my definite keepers. Now here's the rest
These are the 4 remaining and I must choose 2. I know Puig has a small sample size but his upside should be a ton when he's finally comfortable in MLB.
also, I have M. Scherzer as my top Pitcher
I would go with Jones and Scherzer. Puig as hard as he plays is most likely going to be on the DL in my opinion. Every year I see post about pitching not being smart to keep. I disagree. I have won many leagues and every time i win it is because of my staff being outstanding. You need the ace at the top to win. I would look at keeping a pitcher with Jones.
i would keep Jones easily but the last one is a tough call. Gomez can put up 30/30 stats but Puig has good upside. i would try to trade the remaining 3 in a packaged deal to land a elite player
I'd most likely lean on Jones and Gomez. I love Carpenter, but if he regresses a bit this year, he drops significantly lower in the rankings. Same could be said for Scherzer who came out of nowhere last year really. The one case you could make over Gomez is Puig. He was like a young Vlad Guerrero at times last year. Also his value is pretty high right now, so he may be worth holding on to just for the trade potential. But then again, if you don't get any good offers, you may be stuck with an unmotivated player who picks up a nagging injury every other game and misses 40 games.
In my opinion, when you keep as few as 4 players, you keep your 4 best players, regardless of position. To me, your 4 best are Miggy, Braun, Jones, and Gomez.
That being said, regardless of how many teams are in your league, Puig and Scherzer should be enticing trade targets for a team with mediocre keepers. Therefore, I'd look to either make a package involving 2 of Gomez, Puig, and/or Scherzer for a better 4th keeper, or I'd look to obtain some draft pick compensation (if your league allows draft pick trading).
