  • How to distribute bench spots?

    notorious by notorious . Mar 24, 2010 8:13 AM . Permalink

Im in a league with 7 allowable bench players and the following positions:

Batting: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util

Pitching: SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P

How many bench spots do I distribute for batting and pitching?

Don't get locked in on a formula - in general, draft the best talent that is available - example don't pass on a promising pitcher in the late rounds for a mediocre outfielder because you have too many pitchers on the bench adn need oufileder depth - ask yourself "is this guy significantly better than what I am likely to pick up in the free agent pool?" If the answer is no then don't waste the roster spot. Remember if there is an injury and you are short on a position you can trade for it if you have talent on the bench.

If it's H-H I'd use 1 or 2 bench spots for a hitter, the rest for pitching. If it's ROTO I'd use most bench spots for hitting.

In ROTO, I generally try to make my UT an OF. Then I like a MI, CI, OF backup....
