The original story on Yahoo said that the decision was made by GM George Mc Phee and Coach Bruce Boudreau who then informed the team of the decision. Now Yahoo says that Ovechkin said he would accept the responsibility if his team mates wanted him to. Kinda makes you wonder how much input his team mates actually had in that decision doesn't it.

Ovech is one of the most passionate players in the NHL and his all out game lights a fire under his team mates. He does the dirty work,not just shows his sublime skill. Thats what a captain is,Willing to put it all on the line to help his team win. Best player in the NHL and a worthy captain, overdue i.m.o.

Ovechkin is clearly the best player in the league. You claim that he shouldn't be captain, yet you haven't even given him a chance. It's just like Americans to be so ignorant. You also forget the the NHL is a business and guess what? He sells. If you look at stats to determine who's the best you should probably see that he has missed nearly a dozen games and is still top 5. American's still and will always be afraid of Russians, God knows why.

he doesn't try to injure people. he's just careless and balls out. he's a great leader though because he's not in it for the money, he plays because he loves hockey.

i dont see ovie having that much leadership..just loves the game..i dont see very many players on the caps with leadership, i would have named Brendan Morrison the Captain if it was my choice.

man you should kick urself in the ass for posting this thread...making ovi captain was the best thing hat happend to them in years.....like whos chris clark anyway the guy was a joke as a captain
