I agree, Savard would be a great guy for the team, but guess they want to really focus on developing the young Canadians as well, since right now there's soooo many "vets" that will be on the team but will be retiring sometime soon in the next 4-6 years, so they wanna develop the "future of Canadian hockey"...but I still agree that Savard should have been at training camp...unless he was invited but wasn't able to make it...that could have happened
Here are the players who I think are locked in to this team so far
F - Crosby, Iginla, Nash, Getzlaf, Heatley, Perry, and Doan.
D - Pronger, Boyle
G - Brodeur, Luongo
These are the guys that couldn't play themselves off the team if they tried. Perry and Doan don't seem to be on everyone's list but I can assure you that they are going to be there.
There are clearly a lot more questions on defense but based on performance and experience I believe you have to pair up Keith, and Seabrook. They have been remarkable this year and are looking good to be selected. Other D I think are Bouwmeester, and Weber. Neidermayer is the popular choice but I think it will come down to either him or going with youth in Doughty. Many think Neidermayer is only playing this year so that he could play in the Olympics and has proven that he can still play, but it's possible that it comes down to a decision like that.
The most notable not on the list is dprobably Penner. Where he would have been a shoe-in if the Olympics were two years ago his play in Edmonton got him right off the list. But his play this year has proven that he should be there at least as an alternate and I think he gets the nod. Brad Richards, and Stamkos also get consideration as the 13th forward
The other forward positions come between. St.Louis, Thornton, Marleau, Lecavalier, Smyth, Carter, Morrow, M.Richards, Stamkos, Toews, and Sharp. I think that Thornton, Marleau, Richards, and Carter have played themselves on this team indefinitely. If Penner is on this list I think that makes Morrow's likely role unnecessary. Smyths unfortunate injury might make him a difficult choice but he gets the nod as an alternate. The rest is too difficult for me to call right now, maybe in a couple weeks.

Here's who I think are on the team for sure
F- Crosby, Thornton, Getzlaf, Perry, Heatley, Iginla, Nash, M. Richards and Carter
Those of you throwing Penner's name out there have got to be kidding. So hes played a good 27 games. All of a sudden his name is in a discussion of the best players in Canada? We could field two teams and I don`t think I would have him on either.
I would like to see Brad Richards get consideration though. He's a proven big game player (see Conn Smythe) and is having a great year. I am admittedly a biased stars fan... So realistically he won't make the cut.
D - Niedermayer, Pronger... there are so many options here I really don't even know if these are safe. But Niedermayer is a likely captain so I think he's in. And Pronger is too good to not make the team.
Boyle, Doughty, Keith, Seabrook, Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Green, Weber are all good picks.
Interesting that most of these guys are from the Western Conference. Maybe I missed a few from the East.
G - Brodeur (starts), Luongo, Fluery.
Goalies seem to be pretty much locked up. Ward is injured and played himself off the team anyway. S. Mason has been pretty poor. Osgood less than spectacular and also battling injuries.I actually heard someone on TSN throw Turco's name into the mix. Even as a stars fan, I say that is a bad idea. I still don't trust him after last year's inconsistent play. Another name they mentioned was Chris Mason. I doubt it, but I guess I never watch the Blues so I really don`t know.
1 of either Niedermayer, Phaneuf, Green or Robidas
Crosby, Nash, Iginla
Thornton, Heatly, Toews
Getzlaf, Carter, St Louis
Richards, Smyth, Perry (or Marleau)
C: Crosby, Thornton, Lecavalier, Getzlaf (Eric Staal)
RW: Iginla, Perry, Nash, Doan (Penner)
LW: Heatley, Sharp, Toews, Marleau (Smyth)
D: Green, Weber, Pronger, Niedermayer (C), Bouwmeester, Keith (Seabrook)
G: Brodeur, Luongo (Fleury)
- Players in brackets are backups
- There are a few Centers on the Left Wing, if you check how many centers are on that roster, you'll understand why.
- I wanted to include both the Richards as well, but they just didn't fit into the roster
Goaltenders: Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Marc-Andr? Fleury
Dan Boyle - Chris Pronger
Jay Bouwmeester - Mike Green
Duncan Keith - Shea Weber
Nash - Crosby - Iginla
Heatley - Thornton - Marleau
Penner - Lacavalier - St. Louis
Morrow - Richards - Doan
Getzlaf & Toews.

I think Penner is a great pick for this team but Perry and Getzlaf are a lock on this team.
There is no way in hell that Getz is not the number 2 center and Perry will be there with him. No doubt. I think that puts Lecavalier and St louis on the outside of this lineup.
G - Brodeur
G - Luongo
G - Fleury
D - Niedermayer 'C'
D - Pronger
D - Bouwmeester
D - Boyle
D - Green
D - Keith
D - Weber
Nash - Crosby 'A' - Iginla 'A'
Heatley - Thornton - Marleau
St. Louis - Getzlaf - Perry
Morrow - M Richards - Doan

exactly my picks except i would change morrow with carter because Richards and carter play with each other.
D pairs should be
Pronger-Niedermayer obvious choice IMO
PPP specialist Green
On a side note Toews will probably not make the team. All the people that picked him should kick themselves. Not that he is a bad player but there are to many good Cs in canada Getzlaf, crosby, thorton,Mike Richards, Carter and even B richards who won't make the team are better than Toews
Forwards (15): Sidney Crosby, Rick Nash, Jarome Iginla,
Jonathan Toews, Mike Richards,
Ryan Getzlaf, Martin St-Louis, Joe Thornton,
Vincent Lecavalier, Corey Perry, Jeff Carter,
? Patrick Marleau, Dany Heatley,
Steven Stamkos, (it will be Shane Doan)
John Tavares.(it will be Ryan Smith if healty)
Good mention to: Ryan Smith, Shane Doan, Branden Morrow,
Defense (7) Drew Doughty, Scott Niedermayer, Shea Weber,
Dan Boyle, Dion Phaneuf, Jay Bouwmeester,
Good mention to: Duncan Keith, Mike Green,
Goalers (3) Martin Brodeur, Marc-Andre Fleury,
Carey Price (it will be Robrto Luongo)
Good mention to: Roberto Luongo, Cam Ward.
I am sure I forgot some good players but this is my team. Young and talented with new guys like Stamkos and Tavares on third line!

Tavares will definitely not make this team. He is a rookie, and although he has proven that he can compete with the big boys, there is no place for him in a tournament like this at this stage in his career. This is not the world juniors anymore and he would get punished. He is a good player (a damn good player) and will compete with the Crosbys and Ovechkins of the league for years to come but he doesnt get the spot this year. Not with the talent and experience at this level that would have to get left behind.
And why do you pick 15 forwards, its a 23 man roster so are we going with no goalies?
