Reply from Yahoo to my email: (*last season)
Players may be eligible at multiple positions during the current Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Hockey season. Initial position eligibility was determined based on past participation and information supplied by the teams during the off-season.
* All position eligibility requests are reviewed, compiled and forwarded to our data provider who makes the final decision on position eligibility.
* Please understand since Yahoo! is not responsible for modifying position eligibility, we cannot speculate on future changes or comment on the decisions made regarding individual player(s).
* There are no set criteria (minimum number of games, minutes, etc. at a new position) for position eligibility. A new position will be added when our data provider determines that a player's primary position has changed.
* Players will never lose position eligibility which means they can be played at either their old or new positions for the remainder of the season.
We appreciate your feedback. While we'd much rather address each request personally, it's simply not practical given the nature of the review process. Whenever you have further comments or questions, please feel free to email me again.
So... Who is this mysterious "data provider" i hear so much about??
Hopefully he gets it right & soon!
Would it not just be easier just to leave the player at the positon that he started at for the entire season, that way no one would have an unfair advantage over anyone else, seem like the reasonable thing to. Just my two cents.
I'd be curious to know who the mysterious "data provider" is, too. It would certainly help if we were able to contact them directly.
Some notable players I've noticed that should be eligible for position changes recently include:
Pavel Datsyuk (add LW)
Patrick Marleau (add C)
James Neal (add RW)
Jamie Benn (add RW)
Mikael Samuelsson (add LW)
Alex Burrows (add RW)
Alex Tanguay (add RW)
Interesting to note also, is that Samuelsson and Burrows are listed exactly opposite of the positions that they play on the same line in Vancouver, and that Yahoo! currently lists ALL 1st and 2nd line wingers on Dallas as LW.

Not to mention Vaclav Prospal for NY. He's been playing as a center for weeks now and is listed as a C on the Rangers official site and on ESPN. No changes in Yahoo though all season, which is driving me nuts.
I feel that this year they are waaay slower at updating player positions than they have been over the past couple of seasons.
