No way -this year they are going to be team turmoil because they bring in emery as a back up, Datsyuk becomes a defenceman because they are too loaded with talent up front. Chelios spends the season steaming in the pressbox only to watch draper retire and join the coaching staff. And there is a huge Donneybrook in training camp that show they fight like girls, so they trade Franzen to the Coyotes for Carcillo and mid season they demote Kronvall (who converted to forward after Datsyuk went all wuss) to the minors to make room for Chris Simon.

And thats the prediction from a Diehard Wingnut.

Well, since it's long shot prediction day...

In the west, toss up between Chicago & LA. Chicago is poised to make an impact and LA might surprise.. lots of talent on that team, even if it's green. New coach coming in might spark it.

In the east.... it's Montreal's centennial, so guess who i'm going for? :)

OK..as long as we are making crazy and somewhat premature predictions...

I predict tragedy will strike an eastern conference team.

I predict a player will fight hard to wear a 3 digit number.

A new form of cheating will be unraveled as some players will be caught "corking" their hockey sticks.

A new double edge skate blade will take the hockey world by storm.

A new 3rd jersey for the Devils will be so popular with the gangsta clique that a new gang will form to rival the bloods and the crypts. They will wear this jersey.

New hockey nets will be encoded with sensors inside the posts to detect a chip inside the puck so it will automaticly register if a goal passed the line...even under the goalie or in his glove.

      And...oh yeah...NYR and...I don't know...Dallas will be in the final.

hmmm...interesting hypothesis Jay, in fact eerily similar to what I think will happen in Vancouver. Gillis and Markus Naslund agree to terms on a contract, with Naslund signing a one year, $750,000 dollar contract to be Roberto Luongo's backup. The 'C' will then be given to the newly signed Sean Avery (6 years, 35 million), who will form a line with Curtis Sanford and Trevor Linden (who, seeing the positive changes in the organization, decides to come out of retirement). The Sedins are traded to Calgary for Dion Phaneuf, who moves up to center a second line with Alex Burrows and Ryan Kesler - a bit awkward at first, but the three are able to settle in to be one of the most potent scoring combinations in the league, ("West Coast Express II"), with Burrows chalking up a league leading 58 goals, and Kesler taking the Art Ross with 135 points (all assists). After a first round sweep of the defending champ Wings, the Canucks go all the way to Game 7 of the final against Toronto, where riots in Vancouver force the authorities to cancel the game and the Cup is awarded to the Leafs, triggering a whole series of riots across the country and a national state of emergency. Leafs fans rejoice.
