So the Nucks can't even hire GM from the minors - I guess Mike Gillis was the only guy who applied for the job because how else could he get the gig unless he's the best salesman in the world and could sell Naslund as if he was a bottomless bag of gold.
Wait a minute, he is a salesman and he must of chatted up a storm during the interview, sure wish I had that finesse and eloquence with words.
I guess all the best and brightest guys with experience were too busy and dedicated to manning the helm of their beer league teams. Well at least the Isle and Stars hired guys with some NHL experience - at least the type that counts, on the ice. I am sure Gillis's "relationships" with all the GM's he's pissed off over the years while shilling his chumps and gouging on behalf of mercurial stupor stars is really going to pay off.
As to Naslund.... I guess he'll be wearing Blue and Green next year.
Well, afterall, it is the Sports Entertainment business and in "Mickey" Gillis they definitely hired the best Rodeo Clown.

We'll just have to wait and see now won't we. Seems like Aquilini may have been too busy prancing around the house in his mother's underwear to bother interviewing any qualified candidates. Or as you said Jay O, he was simply entranced by the eloquent and lawyerly rhetoric of a glorified used-car salesman.
And what's all this talk now about trading the Sedins? With a lack of scoring being the Canucks' biggest problem these past three years, why, it makes perfect sense to trade the two top scorers. Nevermind that they are point-per-game players under contract for this season at 3.5 mil each. Sounds like a great idea! Sometimes I swear Pratt and Taylor have their heads up each others asses. What the Canucks really need is a top line! Unless and until they have a bona-fide top-line RW to play with, the Sedins will continue to flourish as the best second-line in the NHL. Also seems to me they just don't yet have the grit and intensity to be top-line players at this point in their careers. A little more playoff experience and hopefully that will get better.
As for Naslund, I think he needs a change of scenery, and I know he won't be back in Vancouver if Vigneault stays on, which seems inevitable.
They moved way too fast... the picture can't be clear yet... who knows which GM will be available next year. T
he new owner panicked, replaced an adequate GM, and hires someone with no management experience..
Something we're not being told here.. something behind the scenes... maybe dirty pictures.. maybe Aquilini's a cross dresser...

"Tainted by losing in Toronto?"
- 52 Ties

"Tainted" Perhaps his time in LA - but, successful in
VANCOUVER - PHILADELPHIA - TORONTO.
"Tainted" was ..............[ .] that close to a winner
"Tainted" has a very positive record in international
Give me more "tainted". There will be more playoff
appearances than this years crop generated.
No No NO Not Quinn please! What has he ever won? And he's been tainted by all those years of losing in Toronto! What this team needs is to bring in people who have won before and are dedicated to winning again. I totally agree with your bias, Jay, and I hope it's somebody from the Red Wings organization. Look at what they've done with late round draft picks - their player development model is unparalleled. Of course, it helps that they are a franchise with a history of winning, unlike Vancouver, which has a history of mediocrity. Sometimes in sports, attitude is everything.
It will be interesting to see who the Aquilini's get as GM, and what moves he makes to improve this team. Until then, I will reserve my judgement on the firing of Nonis.

Whoever it is will have a tough job. Vancouver should have traded Morrison and Nazzy during 2003 when they were the top line in the NHL(close anyway). And got some young blood. Instead they are stuck with an aging Naslund and a useless morrison. The Sedins are solid but are not the type to lead a team to the cup.
Bowman would be sweet if it ever happened.
