I just won the championship so my team is fairly good and now I have to come up with my list of keepers for next year. We get to keep one player in each position and then one utility player. I have a number of guys that preformed well this year and others that underperformed so I am questioning who should stay with my club.
C- Carter, Stamkos, Briere, Marleau
LW- Heatley, Elias, Marleau
RW- Gaborik, Iginla
D- Chara, Gonchar, Bogosian
G- Giguere, Turco, Mason
I have others but I wouldn't consider keeping them.
I am thinking of keeping Carter, Heatley, Iginla, Chara, Turco and Marleau
Stamkos should be kept for the long term, but based on your system of keepers he might be available for next year and the year after. Turco is dead man.. let it go. Keep Mason. Can you make a trade for better players? how did you win with that line-up? I wnat in your pool..
I would inquire first if you are in a standard drafting league, ie) round by round selection, or if you are in a keeper salary cap auction league. I participate in the latter and it is the best kind I have ever done.
If you are in a standard drafting league then I think that your choices are pretty straight forward.
C---Jeff Carter; for the sole reason that he will put up his fair share of goals for a while to come and he also plays on a very offensively talented Flyers team. If you can, try and snag Claude Giroux late in your pool next year because I think he will be a player to watch.
LW---Dany Heatley without question. The guy had an off year under Craig Hartsburg, but so did the rest of the team. I don't think I have to make any argument for it.
RW---Jarome Iginla; for the reason that he is one of the most complete players in the game today. He will give you stats in every category. The guy is a pure fantasy stud.
D---Zdeno Chara was the second best defenseman this year on yahoo, although I would take a few guys over him. He will give you solid defenseman stats. I like Bogosian much more, but he's just not an over the top elite player yet, and I mean yet.
G---Jean-Sebastian Giguere will rebound into form. His trademark has been consistency and you don't just lose that after one bad year. Anaheim was burned and disrespected by Paul Kariya so they would never turn around and burn Giguere, meaning he will be the number 1 next year. Marty Turco is on the decline, and Chris Mason has never put it together.
Util---Marian Gaborik is just too talented to release back into the pool. Yes he gets injured quite a bit, but the guy is a pure point producer. He's going to leave the Wild and go from a defensive system to a more offensive system. Just imagine how well he will do.
The only other player I would consider would be Steven Stamkos because he is getting over his early season jitters and playing some great hockey.
Congratulations on winning your pool.
A lot of you think I should be keeping Gaborik over Marleau and I have thought about it because Gaborik has been great since coming back but a few things surround him that worry me.
1) he has had a history of injuries and I don't want one of my keepers to be on the IR list half the season.
2) his future is uncertain. There are rumours that he will end up in Vancouver but I'm worried that if he gets a long term contract he might not play as hard as he did at the end of a contract year when the Wild were fighting for the playoffs
3) I may be able to pick him up off waivers again next year if he gets injured and store him on my bench until playoffs like I did this year

While Gaborik is injury-plagued, Marleau is inconsistency-plagued. At least you can throw Gaborik on IR if he's hurt and replace him with someone hot.
Oh, and he's had corrective surgeries on both hips now that are supposed to correct the groin issues. For whatever that's worth.
If you have Steve Mason take him instead of Turco. Mason is young and is only getting better Turco is old and is only getting worse. If it's Chris Mason then i would say take Giguere over Turco. Giguere's Dad died early this season and he should bounce back next year. (ANA is better than DAL)
