What ever happened to the old saying you said as a kid, "Sticks and stones...". It continues to amaze me that adults can let a little name calling or trash talk get them off their game. Now a slash or an elbow to the head, well then I can see a legitimate reason to react. Even then it is better for your team to let the other team get the penalty. If you want to get revenge... do it on the scoreboard. A little shoving match does nothing but hurt your team. I am not saying there is never a good time to stick up for a teammate, but more often than not it is a bad penalty. How many clean hits draw shoving matches or fights these days? Too many. Keep your head up and in the game boys!

Scared? No. Smart? Yes. I hope Clarkson and Co enjoyed their time in the box...

I thought it was stupid of Clarkson to go after him. I know that he is the tough guy for the devils but it's not like this is a new trick for Avery. Almost everyone else knew that Avery wasn't going to fight back so he should have just let it go. Clarkson just gave New York a PP and didn't prevent Avery from doing the same things next game. It's not that I agree with Avery not fighting but he is known for doing that so Clarkson needs to realize that and not go out there and hurt his own team while trying to get revenge. I guess that's why he will spend most of the playoffs as a healthy scratch.

Agreed Carolyn, it's called smart hockey...

i hear ya, but he's been pretty effective at drawing penalties.
in a game like that things can go either way & i'm happy that he's learned to control himself. if he can get under people's skin & make his opponent end up in the box it works for me!
helped in getting lundi a shutout -
shouldn't have been in the box?! he clearly started the fight as he was the first one who dropped the glove. watch the full game before commenting.

Let's face it, love or especially hate him, the guy is effective.

He made the devils take 16 minutes of penalties in the third. Pretty much locked up the game for NYR.
