    Stamkos worth the risk?

I know it's usually bad form to draft rookies in fantasy hockey, but I was able to grab Stamkos off waivers very early on......and figured he could be my number 3 C. Behind Briere and Savard....

    It's a 12 team yahoo default league (G,A, +/-,PIM,SOG)

There are some big name centers on waivers, and I was wondering what people's thoughts are....
Should I drop Stamkos for someone like:

    S koivu
    J Staal
    M Modano

or keep him for now and see how he produces?

    • Stamkos is a gamble!!!!!! Do you feel lucky???

    • stamkos isn't worth the risk. the tampa bay lightning have a great first line, but not much more than that. Brind'amour is safer, but still at risk due to age, and injury. Plus, carolina just lost justin williams, so they'll be down another solid winger. Of the centers you listed, i would take macdonald. He's been ripping it up in preseason play, and he's the definitive number 1 centre in st. louis this year. Now they aren't the winningest team in hockey, but with boyes, kariya, stempniak, tkachuk, and macdonald, they definitly have a solid 1 or 2 lines to play around with. Take macdonald now, stamkos will be available for you later on if he starts ripping it up.

      • see......I completely agree with that.
It was actually Macdonald that I dropped to pick up stamkos.
I had MacDonald on one of my fantasy teams last year (8 team league), and he ended up being a FA for nearly the entire season.....and I didn't see much improvement in StLouis during the offseason.....so I figured he'd have another lazy, underachieving year. But this preseasons been a lot different for sure.....

It was definitely between brindamour and macdonald though...

        anyone else care to comment?
