I think that is a very good point. He is a great contact hitter, but what made him valuable was his power and his steals last year. Steals also don't bold well when your with the A's, considering Billy's philosophy.
I hope you right though...

I built the ladder part of my pitching staff later, you can get bedard, carpenter cheap....Harden and Santana towards the middle. Lincecum and Webb in the first 4 picks (with Berkman and Braun)
As everyone else has said, what's your hitting situation?
Bats are more valuable in fantasy baseball as there is no such thing as a 5 category pitcher. There are, however, several 5-cat hitters.
Having awesome pitchers likely means you have a pretty piss-poor fantasy squad, overall...
Webb - seeing orthopedic surgeon - missing next start
Harden - always a liability - and had a terrible Spring
Carpenter - ehh, damaged goods
Bottom line - not that good. Let's see your position players.

Didn't i list 8 pitchers? I realize I have some liablilities like carpenter, harden and smoltz, but what's your point? When they play they bring A game. And i have Santana, Bedard and Garza to back them up when they are out!
