2 words: don zimmer.
believe it or not, it doesn't take much to knock a 60 year old down. and the red sox DID handle it. he was given a team-issued fine to be paid to charity, and manny formally apologized afterwards behind closed doors within the red sox organization. it was a small incident within the clubhouse between red sox employees and was settled by red sox. i don't see why MLB would need to be involved at all. to think that he deserves a year long suspension for this is absolutely absurd. and deportation? i'm praying to god that was a joke. People can't honestly be that stupid. Darwin couldn't have been that wrong.
Its not his first attack on a coworker. Deportation is said tongue in cheek, but not the year suspension. This was over tickets and the man is over 60 years old! How far do we let this go? If you attack a coworker what happens to you? I am sick of professional athletes living by different rules. I actually liked Manny before this. Like I said before, Kenny Rogers got 20 games for shoving a reporter down and he was not 60. If this wasn't one of the leagues money teams Selig would have already sat him down.
Manny attacked Youkalis earlier this year. Maybe next he he can beat up a 10 year old. I guess as long as he is a Yankee fan it will be okay.
By the way, you know how you don't shove down a 60 year old? KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF THEM!
Assault is a crime of violence against another person. In some jurisdictions, including Australia and New Zealand, assault refers to an act that causes another to apprehend immediate and personal violence, while in other jurisdictions, such as the United States, assault refers only to the threat of violence caused by an immediate show of force. Simple assaults that do not involve any aggravation such as use of a deadly weapon are distinguished from aggravated assaults in some jurisdictions.
Assault is often defined to include not only violence, but any physical contact with another person without their consent.
Sounds like what Manny did, huh?
