    Big Trade-Thoughts

you make a fair point. we have two cy young candidates in webb and santana, but consider their support. there is a lot more pressure on yohan, and arizona is a year older and may actually out-hit the mets

han ram in an average year is quite better than tulo, who over-achieved last year, against pitching that will have a better idea against him. so, we're pitting oswalt against the waiver wire

while oswalt declines every year for a declining astros team with a questionable closer, in a ballpark that seems to get smaller every year. i don't know that i have that much faith in oswalt to not consider the deal

    • Lets look at Oswalts "decline" over the past 4 years will start with 04 an move to 07.
      04'
      20 wins, 3.49 era, 206 so, 62 bb, 35 GS
      05'
      20 wins, 2.94 era, 184 so, 48 bb, 35 GS
      06'
      15 wins, 2.98 era, 166 so, 38 bb, 32 GS
      07'
      14 wins, 3.18 era, 154 so, 60 bb, 32 GS

Well its clear from these numbers that even if he declines again this year you get what a pitcher with a 3.4 era?? One with around 140 strikeouts and 14 wins. I feel that he is going to rebound a little this year but even if he doesn't. Can you name me a better pitcher in the league that on a decline year will give you a 3.4 era and around 15 wins?? Oswalts stock has dropped because of his horrible start but i think who ever decides to stick with him will be pleasantly surprised.
