Dump your league--20 teams 30 players, IDPs

Are you ready for some football?!! Join my fantasy league of champions! I'm looking for players with proven track records who have won championships in large leagues.

Overview of the basics: 20 teams; only four teams make the championship playoffs; experienced, talented managers only; individual defensive players -- which more accurately simulates real football; 30 total players; live draft on a Sunday morning; draft lottery weeks before the draft, so you can prepare and mock draft accurately; Yahoo default scoring system altered to correct defects in defensive scoring balance, etc. The details are below.

    Go to http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/register/joinprivateleague_league_select?jsubmit=1&league_id=2433&password=haden&.scrumb=

For this season, I'm going to do a draft lottery as soon as we get 20 teams. In other words, I'm going to randomly assign draft positions to every single team. This is very important because otherwise you have to wait until 30 minutes before the draft before receiving your draft position -- which makes mock drafting somewhat useless. (This kind of draft lottery seemed to be very popular in my baseball league this year.) If you know what your draft position is two or three weeks in advance, you can really do a much better job of preparation. If you are unhappy with your draft position, and you are able to agree to a swap with another fantasy team manager, just let me know, and I will do the swap for you.

There will be a live draft, and I would prefer that everyone participate rather than autopick. It's just really hard to be competitive if you get stuck with an autopicked team. First of all, Yahoo's rankings are mediocre even for offensive players -- they're absolutely horrible and worthless for individual defensive players.

Here is a basic description of the league set up:

    20-team league
    head-to-head scoring
    no divisions
    4-team championship playoff
4-team consolation playoff (cannot win championship – a battle for fifth place)
11 offensive players (4 WR, 3 RB, 1 QB, 1 TE and 2 wildcards-- any offensive position)
11 individual defensive players (IDP) (1 DT, 2 DEs, 3LBs, 2 Safties, 2 CBs, and 1 wildcard-- any defensive position)
    1 kicker
    no defense/special teams
    7 bench players
Long, live draft -- Sun Aug 28 7:00am PDT (West Coast time) Last year’s draft took 3 hrs and 15 min.
    no injured reserve/disabled list

Basically you will have two complete offensive teams, and a single, complete defensive team. Because of the scarcity of running backs and starting quarterbacks, I have created two wild-card offensive positions that can be filled with any offensive player. The defensive roster positions consist of 10 traditional positions with one wild-card player who can be any defender -- that will let you play a 3-4 or 4-3, or even a 3-3-5 defense.

The scoring system is improved. I have slightly adjusted the Yahoo default point scoring, and it seems to be a great improvement on the default settings. Yahoo's default scoring setup is highly flawed. They do not give enough points for sacks or passes defensed -- among other things -- so linebackers make up 90% of the top scorers on defense. I have adjusted those point values so that linebackers only make up about 50% of the top 50 players. I've also been able to greatly improve the value of shutdown cornerbacks and defensive ends. They still aren't as valuable as linebackers (in general), but they are comparable, and certain individual CBs, Safeties, DEs, and DTs, are very highly ranked.
