Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I’m in an NL only league (family roto league (5 mgrs), keeper (can only keep 3 position players and 3 pitchers for no more than 3 season with this being the 2nd season), standard 5x5 categories), currently in 2nd down 8.5 pts and I’m looking to make a run at it in these last 40+ games or so (gotta defend my championship from last season!). My cousin who’s on top leads almost every category with me just behind him pretty much in everyone of them. Currently tied for 2nd in steals, last in wins.
Was offered by my cousin who's in 1st his Dee Gordon and Goldschmidt (who I'm both likely to keep next season if trade goes through) for my Greinke and Rizzo. Greinke was one of my keepers from last season so I'm only able to keep him through next season.
I’ve already lost Jose Fernandez due to injury and Samardzija, Street and Grilli due to them going to the AL. Recently traded my Tulo (who I had last season as well) for Desmond and Rafael Soriano. My current team is:
OF: Kemp, Bruce, Trumbo, Heyward
UTIL: Billy Hamilton, Matt Adams
SP: Ross, Alex Wood, Liriano, Cueto, Greinke
RP: Melancon, Papelbon, Chapman, Mejia, Soriano
B: Latos, Cole (who's scheduled to be activated on Wednesday)
DL: Harvey (keeping for next season)
Worth taking? Thanks for the input!
No go... keep Rizzo, Desmond, Hamilton & Cueto, Ross, Harvey ...you have no better core than that going into next season... if you can upgrade on one of those guys, good luck... Rizzo is possibly a top 5 1Bman for the next 10 years, Desmond while is average won't thrill anyone is only 1 of 3 SS who can even sniff 20/20, and Hamilton will dominate the SB cat so unless you got Dee Gordon or Jose Altuve... you keep him. Cueto, Ross, Harvey all young Cy Young potential.
There is no way you should take this offer if your main goal is to defend your championship. Rizzo is the best power bat in your line-up, so you are definitely not going to find a replacement for him in FA. You are already last in W so why give up one of your best pitchers? how are you in innings projections?

Really? Even if you were to pick up the best bat in the NL (granted, he'd be of no help this season but possibly for the next 3 seasons) but a nice pickup nonetheless? I may be able to catch up in runs and gain a half a point in steals. I could also drop Mejia (who knows how his health situation will affect his save chances down the road) and pick up another bat to make up for loss of Rizzo.
