Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
What are the odds that he gets traded to a contender but takes on the role of a set-up man?
If he gets traded to a better team and remains in the closer position, his value obviously goes up. But, reports are that the Dodgers are looking at him to replace Brian Wilson as Jansen's set-up man...and other teams could be thinking something similar...
i agree about giles, he seems worth rostering if you do move papelbon. for me, however, i really dont see a team trading to take on papelbon's contract only to put him in a setup role. theres really no reason to do it, in fact there are probably better setup options than papelbon and they will all be cheaper than pap, so i think he will close this year. of course the dodgers dont care about money or making smart moves so perhaps he could end up in LA, but he seems a better fit in detroit or SF
I think you're getting a lot of bad advice dude... I believe Papelbon will Close wherever he goes even including the Dodgers as they would likely only deal for him if Kenley's dead arm becomes an urgent issue.... however my money would be on Detroit. The likelihood of Papelbon actually "losing" value is very slim if he goes to contender as his SVOPS would increase even if he shared the load... odds are the way he's pitched this year he would lock up the role pretty quick anyway... furthermore whoever told you Ryu was overrated is a flaming moron, lol. ...Good Luck!!!

Well, about a week ago, I posted on here and said that I have a guy in my league willing to give me Ryu for Dickerson and Papelbon. A few said that was a great deal for me so I made the offer, and then two people chimed in to say they didn't agree and thought Ryu was overrated. So, I pulled it.
But, now that it's looking more like Papelbon might not be a closer for much longer (and there is plenty of OF depth still available in my league), I might revisit my original plan.
