Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
You guys think Mauer is done?
Was offered Mauer and Mchugh for MY Montero and Cody Allen....
Would you guys pull the trigger on this and hope Mauer gets his ish together?
Maybe I'm dense, but I'm not seeing anything special in Montero... He's about to turn 31 and he's a career .268 hitter. If he paces at his career average, he just looks slightly ahead of the pack when it comes to catchers, and there's a half dozen catchers that aren't too far separated from him in terms of production... so I don't really understand what the issue is with this deal.
Did you really want to aquire McHugh for Allen and the other guy is asking for a little more? It really just might come down to how much you value McHugh and need his production compared to a closer. You may even have to counter Allen for McHugh and walk away if it's rejected if your objective is to land a starter.
If you're just trying to speculate on a Mauer and that's the purpose of the deal, just stand pat. Your best case scenario for Mauer is middle of the pack, and there's a good chance that his body is breaking down and he just doesn't have it. Even if he were able to get his average back up, he hasn't had any power to speak of since 2009, and has only broken 50 RBI once in the last 3 seasons. He's really just a 1 category guy (Average) and he's not producing in that category.
