Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I really like both Bruce & Marte and won a championship with both of them in my OF...but they are both just downright atrocious this year. This Polanco kid is supposed to be the greatest thing since roller coasters & hula hoops were invented - so I dropped my 8th SP Mike Leake and added Polanco.
Here is my roster:
C Mesoraco, 1B Chris Davis, 2B Gordon, 3B Alvarez, SS Aybar, OF Gomez, Pence, Bruce/Marte, UTIL Jon Singleton & Kipnis, Bench Polanco
Obviously I could keep this roster as is but I would rather be able to carry 7 SP and then have an 8th SP spot that I stream 6 times per week if I need to. Would you drop either Marte or Bruce and if so why?
SP: Hammel, Keuchel, Ventura, Beckett, Cobb, Gray, Harang
Closers: Balfour, Cishek, Frieri, Rondon
If I drop Bruce/Marte I can then add another SP which gets me at least 6 more starts per week if I need them.
Highly competitive 12 team H2H - I currently sit in 3rd just 3 games out of 1st.
What would you do? Thanks!!!!
I wouldn't drop Bruce. Especially when you could drop Singleton. Bruce is streaky but when he's hot, he's hot. I did just trade Polanco and Sonny Gray for Adam Jones in my league, so def pick up Polanco. I think Polanco though will not put up the same numbers he has in the minors and will go through stretches where he struggles. At least this year. Plus the Pirates are tanking and aren't known for scoring a lot of runs anyhow.

Looks like this injury has ruined Bruce for this year...but I guess I'm hoping for a miracle. He had 30HR last year...so far only 3.. Singleton only has 3 games under his belt and he looks good so far...but too early to drop so I think I might just wait for a month to see which one of these 4 is the worst.

it's a 12 team league so there are a number of guys available that are decent pitchers...McHugh, Leake, Eovaldi, Tomlin, Delarosa, Vargss, Roark, Elias, Collmenter. I wouldn't necessarily roster any of those but if I had the extra 8th SP available to me I could stream and spot start from that group if I needed extra stats in pitching. I think for now I'm going to wait and see how Bruce, Marte, Polanco & Singleton perform over the next month...then I might drop the weakest of that bunch and grab another SP.
I would not drop either. You should wait a few weeks and see how Marte, Bruce, and Polanco are panning out. If you're really that stoked about having a 8th pitching spot I'd drop/shop SIngleton or Rondon. 4 closers is kind of unnecessary especially with the caliber you have.

I'm leaning towards not dropping either and doing just that...waiting to see which of those 3 rises to the top. Singleton is also a highly touted prospect and I'm waiting him out too. I really can't afford to drop a closer because although they're all good closers the only closer with 10 saves at this point is Cishek....so I am actually below the middle of the pack in terms of total SV.
