Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
You really need to join an auction league to understand a players true value. My league was based on $500 with added CI and MI
In my league, there were only 5 pitchers drafted ahead of him:
- Yu - $72
- Kershaw (Before his injury was known - mid march) - $70
- Scherzer - $53
- Felix - $51
- Strasburg - $50
Jose went tied for 6th with Adam Wainwright for $49 - So really people were only value Yu and Kershaw much more as a difference of $4 isn't much in a $500 league.

That makes sense and If I hadn't seen him pitch and just saw his numbers, I probably would have drafted some of those guys you mentioned before I drafted Jose but I was lucky enough to see all but one of his starts last year so I knew this kid was a complete freak of nature.
In my league, the starting pitchers taken ahead of Fernandez were:
Fernandez was awesome last year, but literally all these other guys (except for Stras I guess) have had multiple, full, successful major league seasons. It's not that people weren't paying attention to Fernandez; it's just that there were more reliable options ahead of him.
I didn't get any top-10 SP in my draft, but I probably would have taken Fernandez ahead of Stras, Scherzer, and maybe Lee. But in the end, we can look at the numbers and project all we want, but no one can know for sure where exactly each of these guys will be at the end of the season.
