Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I am in an OPS keeper league. I can keep 5 keepers. I am keeping Mike Trout $11, Edward Encarnacion $13, Yasiel Puig $6, and Jean Segura $6
But i don't know who to keep as my 5th keeper. Choices:
Michael Wacha $6
Steven Strasburg $23
Adam Jones $26
Please help me choose!
There is absolutely no way you should keep Wacha, regardless of the price. He has no track record and is coming off a career high in innings. Way too risky of a pick when you have both Jones and Strasburg at a discount.
I'd take Jones.
In auction keeper leagues, the issue is 100% value. It makes more sense to keep a good player for $5 than a great player for $35, since you have the good player and $30 to spend - giving you a good player and a VERY good player.
I keep Wacha. His production is going to be solid. He has a filthy change, deals in the 90's, has a good Cardinals team behind him, and a good pen. You then have 5 very good players at a great price, and still hve $219 to spend.
After designating those 5 keepers, you have the budget to get Kershaw and Jones. Seriously, mock it and see. Kershaw for $48 and Jones for something like $30. You now have 7 very, VERY good players and still have $141 to spend.
If you keep Kershaw, your remaining budget is down to $180. If you want to get Wacha, be prepared to spend $17 for him. Down to $153. Spend the same $30 on Jones, and you are down to $123 - $18 less than the alternative.

this would be right if you could count Wacha as a good player this year. He pitched 180 innings between the minors, St Louis and playoffs. His previous high was 135 the year before between college and the minors. That is a giant jump in workload to worry about before considering a sophomore slump or any other factors. Wacha is a high risk pick this year, and there is no point in taking him when he has undervalued stars to choose from.
how many teams? how big is your budget? h2h or roto? is there a 6th pitching cat or is it 6x5? i am inclined to say kershaw. im not sure if he will be the biggest draft day bargain out of those three but trout, encarnacion, puig, segura, and kershaw with a decent amount of money to blow on guys you like seems safer to me, yet you still have an insane amount of upside. pretty hard to pass up in my opinion.
It will definetly be the cheapest you will ever get Wacha if he's the stud everybody seems to think he is. Strasberg is a good option with nearly Kershaw stats. So now I'm having the same dilemma as you. Final Opinion: Strasberg best sure vakue
