Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I don't know yet what the fantasy consensus will be on Matt Adams, but he might be a good sleeper. It appears that Kolten Wong will be overrated, though. I would expect that Jurickson Profar will have someone reaching for him in every competitive league (maybe not the jokes that are the yahoo public leagues, though). Jonathan Villar would be a big upside sleeper (50+ SB capability), but there's a big risk that he'll be another Dee Gordon, so don't pay too much for him. I'm sure Billy Hamilton will have someone reaching for him very early in every competitive league, and a lot of the yahoo public leagues, too.
Christian Yelich might slip through the cracks and be undervalued. I like both Avisail Garcia and Adam Eaton for the White Sox, they should probably be guys you can get outside of the top 200. If you're in shallow leagues, Jason Heyward and Brett Lawrie are the best bets to finish inside the top 20, but be drafted outside the top 50 (maybe even outside the top 80). I don't think Wilson Ramos or Salvador Perez will slip through the cracks, but I could see Derek Jeter falling too far.
For pitchers, look at guys like James Paxton, Yordano Ventura, Drew Smyly, and more. Cingrani and Cobb didn't pitch full seasons last year, but I bet people will see past that and not let them fall too far. Estrada and Bailey are two of the better sleeper pitchers, they could get 200 K's with an ERA near 3.00. You could take the risk with some of the Pirates pitchers expecting them to not regress, but I won't be doing that.
I'm already involved in a couple of drafts for this year and if they are any indication, Gyorko will not be a sleeper. He is going pretty high. I agree with Rendon and, for whatever reason, Profar isn't getting much love even though he'll start this year. I'd also keep my eye on Khris Davis and Kole Cahoun if they are available late. Rotation wise, Porcello should show improvement just because of the added defense in Detroit this year. He's a ground ball pitcher and he'll have Iglesias all year, Fielder gone, Cabrera off third and potentially a faster outfield with Raja Davis. And Porcello is only 25 and has loads of experience. I like him to improve this year.
Torii Hunter, Drew Smyly, Matt Adams, Everth Cabrera are some cheap players that could return some major profits. BUT there are reasons they will be cheap. Hunter is old, Smyly has little experience in the rotation, Adams may not be an everyday player, and Everth is coming off a PED suspension.
