    Pick 6 Keepers

8 team keeper league, pick 6. Batting categories: R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP. Pitching Categories: W, CG, K, BB, SV, GIDP, ERA, WHIP
    Napoli
    Ortiz
    Kipnis
    Segura
    Wright
    McCutchen
    Harper
    Stanton
    Puig
    Myers
    Scherzer
    Strasburg
    Hamels
    Corbin
    Buccholz
    Chapman

At this point I know I will keep Harper, McCutchen, Stanton, Scherzer, and after that I'm torn. I will probably trade Puig for draft picks as well as Strasburg.

    • Given the categories - most notably, 2B, 3B and OBP in addition to the usual 5 categories and BB, GIDP and CG for pitching, the following rules apply:

      (1) In leagues with more than the "standard 5" categories, the value of hitting over pitching increases even further. In the "standard 5" leagues, you can find a 4-category pitcher, who at least competes with a potential 5-category pitcher. However, with 8 categories, a pitcher gives you at most 6 categories (SP'ers give 0 saves and less value on BB than do relievers), while the premium hitters give you 8 categories.

      (2) With just 6 keepers and 8 teams, the value of SP'ing goes down and the value of RP'ing is zero in terms of keepers. Therefore, I lean towards protecting 6 hitters and 0 pitchers.

      (3) The players I keep are:

      Kipnis
      Segura
      Wright
      McCutchen
      Harper
      Puig

All six are 7 or 8-category contributors, and three are IF'ers. I like Segura given his good production at a young age, his potential 15 HR, 50 SB, 100 R production, his good hitter's park, and his premium position. Not having a top-tier 1st baseman is an issue, but those six guys project to combine for 125 HR's and 150 SB's. Those are the counting stats that have value for protected players.

Hamels is the only pitcher who I like as a potential keeper given his low BB rate, high GB rate and resulting GIDP rate. Strasberg is a top-tier SP'er in a "standard 5" league, but not as much with BB and GIDP categories. However, I just don't see a keeper pitcher in an 8-team, 6-keeper league apart from perhaps Kershaw or Darvish.

    • This would be my choice. All 3 bats are 5 tool players. Wright over Stanton or Harper for that and position scarcity. If you're not one to keep saves guys, trade Chapman and keep Harper.

      Kipnis
      Wright
      McCutchen
      Scherzer
      Strasburg
      Chapman

    • Im going to change my answer. Id keep Kipins/Segura/Cutch/Harper/Puig then Wright. I think Scherezer #s will drop. I like keeping bats over arms. Deal Stanton/Scherezer/Stras for picks

    • Kipnis, Segura, Wright, McCutchen, Puig, and you can flip a coin between Harper, Scherzer, and Napoli.

Stanton is not a keeper...unless you are mathematically ignorant.

    • In an 8 team league I would think everyone would have 6 quality keepers. If not defiantly try and deal for a stud 1B. If no trade can be made I am not a fan od half your keepers being OF. I would keep Kipnis, Segura, Wright, McCutchen, Harper and Scherzer.

    • Keep Segura and Kipnis along with the other 4. You should be able to get some really good draft picks for Puig.

    • Kipnis, Segura, Wright, Cutch, Harper, Stanton, Puig, Myers, Scherzer, Strasburg and Hamels. That's 11, so I guess you might be able to trade 3 and I'd say they bottom three are wright, scherzer and…puig. I think Puig is overrated and you could get a lot for him, Wright is 31, and I'm not a fan of AL pitchers longer term and I feel his ERA and WHIP this year will both go up to 3.5 / 1.15, good numbers but not cy worthy.

    • I would deal Puig and Stras and Wright for picks if possible. Id keep Segura/Kipins/Harper/McCutchen/Stanton/Scherezer. Not a fan of keeping a whole bunch of OF. Maybe try to deal Stanton with Hamels for Goldy/Davis if possible. Just look for teams that need more keepers. Make a 2 for 1 with Stanton to upgrade. Then picks for Stras/Puig if possible.
