Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I'm looking to make some roster room for the playoffs to add a hot bat, get more bench players, stream a pitcher, etc. Deadline is next Sunday and I was thinking of a trade like this:
GIVE: Shields, Beachy GET: Scherzer
What do you think? Too much? Too little? Opinions!
I admit I am biased here as a Tigers fan but i wouldn't give up arguably the best pitcher in baseball. If you can get that deal absolutely take it but I highly doubt the other party would give up Scherzer
Interesting trade. I have all three on my roster now. I just acquired Scherzer via trade last week and I am trying to move Shields via trade right now (to add a bat).
I agree with the strategy but I think giving up both Shields and Beachy is too much.
I am keeping Scherzer and Beachy not just because of their individual stats (or potential stats) but because of the teams they play on. Both have plenty of offensive support behind them and Beachy also has superior defense and a top notch bullpen. Combine that with the fact that their team records are 69-47 and 72-46, respectively with Atlanta not having another team with a winning record in their division (I own 3 ATL starters and will add a 4th if I can move Shields).
That being said...I would package Shields with another player and keep both Beachy and Scherzer.
Oops...I misread your post.
I would package Shields with another player and keep Beachy.
Beachy's team has the best record in baseball (72-46) with no other team having a winning record in their division.
I don't know why everybody is suddenly sold on Beachy. He's had one good start against the Marlins, but also had one terrible start. Need to see more of him but I see him as a risk moving forward. I'd do this trade. Sheilds has had a pretty mediocre to bad K/BB ratio lately
