12 team standard league
Always take the top hitter/choice with your #1 pick. In a 12 man league you won't get another pick until 24 and 25, and Kershaw/Verlander/Strasburg/Hernandez are always gone. Price usually as well.
But Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Cain, Weaver, Darvish, Halladay, Gonzalez, Bumgarner, Wainwright, Sabathia, Greinke, Cueto etc. are not. Plenty of quality arms to put on your team later if you covet pitching.
Price is a beast, check his stats..
So,I'd go Miggy then Price,if you are all about pitching.
(There's NOWAY Kershaw,Verlander,or Strass will be available with your 2nd pick if you are in a yahoo league, but Price right up there with them.
Yes it's a dumb move. By the time the picks come back to you likely only 3 Pitchers have been taken being Kershaw,Verlander, and maybe Strasburg. There's a good chance V or S still sits at 24 and you can pick 2pitchers then who are still going to be aces. The idea is to attain the best of each position in tiers. The top tier Batters are in the first 2rounds while the top tier pitchers are in rounds 2-5. If you draft Kershaw #1 by the time your 24/25 picks come I'd bet that 4 pitchers are gone Verlander,Strasburg,Price, and another since your strategy would lead other owners to grab pitchers earlier fearing you nabbing 3 of the top 5. So what happens then you have 1 of top 5 then 6/7. I'd take owning 2 and 3 or 3 and 4. Not to mention you have best bat in fantasy.
If it's the first overall pick, you have to take one of the big 3, Braun, Trout, Miguel Cabrera. If your first pick is in the second half of the first round, Verlander, Kershaw or Strasburg would all be reasonable first round picks
