Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
Just did a mock draft, Im sure liking this team but picked up a bunch of SP and need a bit OF and IF help?
My mock team: 12 team h2h
SS- Castro (should I aim for Asdrubal instead?)
3B- Brett Lawrie (solid finish last year imo)
OF- Reddick (improvement?)
OF- Pence (hope for a bounce back?)
BN- Scutaro, M.Young
SP- Strasburg, Hellickson, Wilson, Shields, Miley, McDonalds, Hammels
RP- Frieri, Hanrahan, C.Perez
so would this be an ok team or should I look for other guys instead?
Your IF is terrific, including Castro. I'm not wild about your OF and AJ at Util. Reddick tailed off badly in the second half last year and Pence plays in a lot of very tough parks to hit in. Morse isn't a terrible bet for a bounceback, but don't expect Safeco to be much more forgiving of RH power hitters even with the fences moved in. OF guys you can get late who might be better include Dayan Viciedo, Starling Marte, Josh Willingham. Consider Kendrys Morales for Util instead of AJ.
Your pitching is OK. My favorite later round targets are Matt Harvey and Homer Bailey. Use your bench for more SP.
It's solid I like to hold of in drafts for sp . I like redick and morse this year I think you're team is solid through out maybe a little week in power but starting pitching is beast and no Castro over cab for sure you need stolen bases from Castro .
closers are so cheap in drafts right now ive taken 4 in every mock ive done so far. i think banking on stras and then waiting on sps is a big mistake id rather get 2 guys in rounds 4-6 than take stras in the second. pretty weak outfield, i would be willing to take a chance on one of those three guys but not all of them and your util and bench seem to have very little upside. good infield if you can get an elite outfielder than can hit for power and average
You should look to other guys.
You are dreaming about improvements for certain players and you overvalue your entire roster.
You have no discernible team speed (two base stealers isn't enough).
Scutaro and Young are a nice bench because they cover multiple positions but you would be much better off if you reach for Zobrist and Prado as both can still be had at a reasonable price (Zobrist in the 5th round and Prado in the 6th or 7th round). I would also make sure that I reach for Allen Craig. Making plays for Adam Jones, Yoenis Cespedes, and/or Alex Rios in the OF would help you out too.
The OF steal of every draft this season will be David Murphy. He is an easy 20/20 player with a full season of playing time and you can get him in the 20th round or later. Everybody should also be targeting Wil Myers with one of their last 3 draft picks this season.

I don't really think any part of your team stands out.
For future reference. Frieri isn't closing, Perez is guaranteed to be out of Cleveland and not closing by August, and Hanrahan is a risk as well moving to the AL East with a (presumably) healthy and motivated Andrew Bailey breathing down his neck.
