Strasburg, Harper or McCutchen - Dynasty
Should I take Strasburg, Harper or McCutchen in the first round of a dynasty league draft? Kershaw is the only pitcher gone so far, but it is a 16 team league and I'm not sure any of these three will come back to me in the 2nd round. The league is H2H 6x6 with OBP and QS (no Wins).

HARPER

You're right none of them likely make it out of the 1st round. I believe more in Harper''s potential than McCutch's bat long term. Shall I also mention Wash will keep Harper with a recycled core of offensive players year by year to increase his stats? Pittsburgh, just won't be able to put any prime players with McCutch unless they hit one via draft.
Strasburg. Just too much injury risk and I want to lock in on bats with my early picks. -
the only thing you should be considering when drafting a dynasty team is production over the next 3 years. The biggest mistake you can make is going to young. Harper in the first would be a giant mistake. While is his ceiling might be unmatched, it's unlikely he'll produce like a first round player for 2-3 years.

I agree with the Harper logic; he will not quite be 1st round material for a couple years at least

I'd take Harper but McCutchen is fine too. Both 5 tool guys and both would be great keystones to build your dynasty around. Harper plays in a better line-up so I give him the nod. That and he is younger.
I'd never take a pitcher first. It's about the position players first last and foremost from my pov. Pitchers arms are way to fragile and Strasberg already has a serious injury once. There is plenty of value in SP deep into the draft. And there are always the "next big thing" in pitching on the horizon. -
Harper all day, Stras is an injury waiting to repeat itself

i say Strasburg, basically same reasoning as what these guys are saying for Harper.

The thing with Dynasty league is you want to build a team that will win year after year and you have to keep in mind where your team will be in 3 years.
If you take McCutchen and in 3 years has value maybe be about the same he will be that age where his value could maybe start to fide and you may want to trade him so that you don't lose that value.
But if you take Harper, He is only 20 years old and with him your good for the next 10 years and in Dynasty leagues guys your good with for the next 10 years are gold mines that you want to get.

I would take Harper. He clearly has great upside, and I would give him a 40% chance of outperforming Cutch this season

I would go with McCutchen. He is only 23 or 24 so he has a lot of years left. And he gotten better each of the last 3 years.

Harper if you want future value, McCutchin if you're winning this year
