What 5 would you keep?
I play in a 10 team h2h league and we get to keep 5 players. Which 5 would you keep? Thanks in advance for your help!
hitters:
andrus, bonifacio, cespedes, m. prado, ellsbury, d. espinosa, frazier, a. jackson, posey, profar, g. stanton, n. walker, zobrist, colvin, r. furcal, d. gordon
pitchers:
c. hamels, c. sale, s. strasburg, a. reed, cj wilson, a. bailey, b. anderson, s. cishek, r. cook, j. johnson, m. pineda, d. storen
i have an idea of the 5 i'd like to keep, but i won't disclose so that i don't bias you.-
After reading a few responses, it seems that the unanimous keepers are:
1) Posey 2) Strasburg 3) Stanton
The iffy keepers are:
4) Hamels 5) Sale 6) Cespedes 7) Ellsbury 8) Jackson 9) Zobrist
Of 4-9, which 2 would you keep and why? -
Ellsbury, Posey, Stanton, Strasburg, Hamels
-
posey, ellsbury, stanton, hamels, strasberg

in order…strasburg, stanton, ham els, sale, zobrist. A case could be made for ells bury or cespedes. I like pro far but he should be available for a few rounds, if you really like him you could draft him round 1 though I think that would be too high.

Posey, Stanton, Hamels, Strasburg, and whoever you like best between Cespedes and Ellsbury.

Simple. Stanton,Ellsbury,Posey,Strasburg,Hamels. That's your best 5via if a draft were held. Those 5 would all go in first 40picks. No top 12 players but a bunch of 13-24players in Stanton,Ellsbury,Strasburg, and Posey. Hamels is around 35-40.
Since you are keeping your 5highest players in a draft, this increases the liklihood you can draft some of the better players that you must let go. Cespedes,Jackson(I'm high on this year),Zobrist,Sale,Anderson,Prado, and Profar.
If you let guys walk like Hamels,Ellsbury I can assure you both will likely be gone within first 6picks of draft. whereas, Cespedes,Sale and Zobrist should last the first 10picks. That means you can likely get 2of the 3 back. Though with OF,OF,C,SP,SP Zobrist with 2bEligibility warrants the biggest pick of need. You proably want to eye 1b/3b if possible. SS has plenty to pick from.- 1 Reply to BrewCrewDue

Thanks everyone for your input!
The 5 I'm thinking of keeping are:
1. Posey
2. Stanton
3. Strasburg
4. Hamels / Profar
5. Sale
I may keep Profar in lieu of Hamels, but I dunno. I thought about Ellsbury, but he's too much of an injury risk for me. Profar is risky, tho, as I can probably get him in the mid to late rounds, but I really like his upside. Any thoughts about Profar?

I would roll with strasburg, stanton, posey, sale, cespedes. It is not common for 2 SPs to be recommended as keepers when you only have 5 to choose from, however you are in a very small H2H league, therefor I say go with at least 2 of the top 10 SPs in the game (I picked the younger ones) and I feel you have an instant edge. Your position players are considerably weaker and more easily replaceable. Stanton and Posey are really the only obvious no-brainers as a position players here, but I would keep Cespedes too as I think he will improve significantly on his impressive rookie campaign. So you you lock up 2/3 of your OF, C, and 2 SPs. You very well could find players you pass on in the draft anyway that just miss the cut like Hamels, Andrus, Prado and Walker etc. but I don;t really view any of them as true "keepers" except for Hamels and you would have Stras and Sale already. I think a high-upside, starting corner OF of Cespedes' caliber is much more valuable at the end of the day than a Hamels as a 3rd SP or an Andrus at SS.

stanton, posey, cespedes, andrus, zobrist. These are the 5 I would keep. I am a firm believer in hitting over pitching. I just think it's easier to finding pitching than it is to find hitting.
