I'm just a big believer in keeping your most talented players, vs. keeping guys because of position. Kipnis would figure to have quite solid trade value. Last year, I turned him and another small piece into Verlander. Just throwing it out there...
Gotta go with CC. Then, well you have an infield at C,2b,SS,3b. so choosing a Desmond/Kipnis must mean theres a Middle Infield MI position? In that case you have to go Kipnis who had 11HRs after 65 games and only 3after. 17SBs/14 after. a .280+avg finished at .257.
He'll be 26 and I like to believe guys in prime ages show flashes of what can be done. He's a 20HR/30SB guy at 2b and likely bats .270 this year. Can't go wrong with Keeping him.
Cueto, just not enough Ks like CC.
Desmond, no I am not sold on him.
Bourn, Bourn is a breed of player found every year on Waivers at some point. No HR power lots of SBs. Decent BA. So why keep him?
CC for sure. He's reliable, and solid year in and year out. I'd be very careful about Desmond - in my opinion, he just had the season of his life. Don't expect the same results. As for Bourn, he's not on a team this year yet, and his value lies solely in his speed (don't expect the same kind of power as he had suddenly in 2012.) He is already past 30, and the speed will begin to decline. Cueto is good, but not great, and with Price and CC, there's no need to keep him.
To me, the answer is Kipnis, who took MLB by storm last year after impressing in his rookie season. He's a good mix between speed and power, and he plays a position that is hard to fill. He's young and talented.
CC and Kipnis.
