I need to keep 4 guys

Miggy, Trout, Braun, Desmond (I think you can probably get a guy like Rizzo to play 1B over Votto who's a bit of a head case, and Desmond's numbers last year would've been top 10 overall had he played a full season, so taking position scarcity into account, I would go with the SS).

      • Well Eric, I suppose you;re entitled to your opinion, but I don't think you disagreeing with me makes me crazy. Desmond is a top 3 if not the top SS in the Majors.

The numbers don;t lie: Desmond in 513 ABs had 25 HRs, 21 SBs, 70+ Runs and RBI and a .292 AVG... tell me who had a better year at SS? Who has more upside combining power/speed/average? HanRam? No. Jeter? No. Reyes? No. Rollins? No. Hardy? No. Asdrubal Cabrera? No. Starlin Castro? No. And all these guys had significantly more ABs. Votts in 374 ABs had 14 HRs, 5 SBs, 50+ Runs and RBI and .337 avg. So the point here is can you compensate better for Votto or Desmond's productivity? The answer is clearly that it is MUCH easier to find a heavy bat at 1B than at SS. There are all kinds of good 1B options that can replace the bulk of Votto's productivity who likely won;t be on keeper lists... I mentioned Rizzo, add Agonz, Butler, Goldschmidt, Trumbo, hell Chris Davis out-powered Votto dude. So I'm crazy for taking position scarcity into account when I recommend Desmond over Votto? Because why? Because Votto has more name recognition... the bottom line is with Miggy, Braun, and Trout in tow, Votto is much less important than a guy like Desmond. I would take Allen Craig and Desmond over Votto and say Andrus or somebody. You can certainly disagree, but calling me crazy for a well-reasoned position without any hard numbers to back up your own opinion is just a bit juvenile if you ask me. j
