It's a waste to keep closers from year to year. Out of the top 10 closers so far this year, only 4 made it through the entire 2011 season as the full-time closer (Kimbrel, Hanrahan, Papelbon, and Perez) and only 2 (Kimbrel and Hanrahan) were in the top 10 from the year before. If you push it out a bit and look at the top 25 closers so far this year, only 9 were also in the top 25 in the 2011 season.

If you go back even further to the 2010 season, the numbers get worse. Only 5 (Papelbon, Marmol, Valverde, Axford, and Perez) were a top 25 closer in all 3 seasons. Unless your league plays with custom settings, keeping a closer from year to year is not a good idea.

I am in an auction league so prices of the player factors into it a lot but I will keep only closers that are bargains and are assured of their jobs. Of my four closers this year I will keep my $1 Chapman and my $3 Jim Johnson. Unless something changes, I will not keep $8 Putz or $3 Holland or $0 Soria (who I picked up to fill a DL roster space towards the end of the season).

Yeah pretty useless, I started with only one closer FFrancisco, out of 3 RP slots, and ended up dropping Francisco, and filling up those 3 RP slots with other dominant closers (Soriano, Frieri, and Wilhemsein). So yeah, keeping a closer is useless, they are unpredictable and so easy to replace.

I disagree because of my way of thinking. I dominate pitching cats and simply stay even with batting. This way I'm at least in the top 3 of any standard league.
