Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
At various times throughout the fantasy year, Kipnis, Altuve, even Ackley have gotten plenty of attention as being up-and-comers at 2B, future stars.
But it seems (at least in my opinion), that Espinosa gets very little attention from the fantasy community, despite having similar stats as the aforementioned players. He's maintained a 20/20 pace at every level competition, and at only 25 years old, i'm sure there's plenty of potential growth there. Unfortunately, a lot of what he brings to the table isn't reflected in standard fantasy baseball league scoring systems, as evidenced by a #10 fantasy ranking amongst 2B despite having the 5th highest WAR at the position.
What do you think is his ceiling at the position? He was ranked as a top-20 2B heading into the season, and like I mentioned before, he's currently producing at a top-10 2B pace. Do you think he's neared his ceiling, or do you see him as a potential top-5 2B in the near future?
I believe he is a potential top-5 2B in the future. However, he is one of the most undisciplined hitters imaginable. He could hit .230 for the next 3 years before becoming the player he will ultimately be at age 28 or 30. Caveat emptor.
