carl crawford worth a keeper spot?

we keep 12 every year and crawford was just dropped. i have the number 4 waiver and was thinking of putting a claim in.
figure he may be a better keeper than hunter pence. since pence is in a major slump and now plays in san fran.

i would keep pence the rest of the season and drop drew stubs for crawford. then stash him on the dl and pick up somebody off the fa market.

    • no. I'd rather have Pence or Stubbs as a keeper.

    • I agree with Steve. Crawford's way too risky to stash right now. Pence is struggling, but he'll be a top-75, if not top-50, draft pick for years to come. I don't think I'd give that up for Crawford, after a disastrous 2011, injured 2012, and TJ surgery that could easily delay and/or adversly affect his 2013 season. I really don't see Crawford's future ceiling exceeding Pence's average production.

    • The only downside with Crawford is that the recovery for TJ surgery for position players is anywhere between 6-9 months. Given Crawford's propensity to come back slowly from injuries, you've got to figure air on the side of 9 months, putting him in late-May, early-June territory. That's not worth a keeper spot in my mind. Slumping or not, Pence will prove to be a better keeper simply due to the fact that he'll play the first few months of the season.
