I agree here. Goose was the best. And no modern day closer should ever be mentioned as "the greatest pitcher ever." Thats just ridiculous. Dude only pitches one inning a game. Rivera is without a doubt the greatest modern day closer, and I doubt we will see someone as good as him again. Sad to see it end like this.

I know your a hard headed southerner who has crazy ideas like chone figgins will be a great fantasy player this year, but to take away what mo has done since 96 is absurd. Mo is the greatest modern day closer. He leads the enitre mlb in saves and was dominant as anyone has ever seen. It is a sad day in yankee land.

Can't compare Goose Gossage to Mariano. Two different era's where RP were used completely differently. Hoffman, Wagner, Franco are more comparable. You wouldn't compare Wee Keller to Rickey Henderson or Jimmie Foxx to Dan Brouthers. And even if you compared him to Lee Smith who had similar length of career Mo blows him out of the water and it is not even close. Rivera is the best example of what a modern closer should be. Look at this season, how many closer changes have already happened because of injury or poor production. Yankees have not had to change their closer since 1997. and even Eck said he was the best closer ever.

Not surprising that you'd go against the grain, but r u taking into account 42 post season saves? I think brad lidge is next on the list with 18. Throwing 1 pitch for 18 years and being that dominant is absurd all in itself.
