I thinking of making this trade offer and wanted to make sure it was fair. He has Pablo Sandoval who just suffered an injury
I Give - Alex Avila, Joey Votto, Moustakas
I Get - Miguel Cabrera
Am I offering too much? Too little? Should I just stick to what I have?
This is my line up:
C - Avila
1st - Votto
2nd - Brandon Phillips
3rd - Adrian Beltre
SS - Bonifacio
OF - Hamilton, Victorino, Swisher
UTIL - Encarnacion, De Aza
BN - Moustakas, Shin Soo-Choo, Robert Andino, Carlos Ruiz
DL - Chris Young
The guy I'm going to make the offer to is really keen on getting Hamilton from me but I'm just not ready to trade him at this point.
Any thoughts and opinions would be most welcome
You are giving too much in that trade. And it doesn't make sense for him to trade away his 3B when one of them just got hurt. He'd be playing Moustakas at 3B rather than Miggy... doesn't make sense for him. Also, if he's big on Hamilton, he probably will be reluctant to do a trade where he gives Miggy and doesn't get the guy he wants in return.

Right now he's got Miggy at first and Pablo at 3rd which is why I figured I would offer him Votto and Moose. Right now I don't use Moose much because of the other guys I have at 3rd. You're probably right though, if I won't give Hamilton then he probably won't give Miggy. He offered me Miggy for Hamilton and Swisher but I thought that was too much. I'm not looking to "win" a trade deal in this transaction I'm more looking to find the most advantageous agreement based on the needs for our team. Thanks for your input.
regardless of how fair the trade is, i don't see a whole lot of incentive for him to accept. Sure, with Sandoval out, he could use the 1B, but we're talking only in the short-term. if we're only talking about 2 weeks without Sandoval, i'd rather play a hot Miggy and FA 1B than a cold Votto and Moose. He needs immediate relief, and i'm willing to bet he won't be too keen on trading an incredibly hot Miggy for an incredibly cold Votto.
long-term, the deal makes a little more sense, but you'd still be asking him to downgrade from Miggy to Votto for really very little in return. Avila's value is questionable, and Moose only has little value as a UTIL player. he may go for it, but personally, i'd never trade down from my best player just for a little more production in my UTIL slot.
for him, the deal just doesn't make much sense.

Thanks Clay, I appreciate the input. I thought the same thing you did but his current lineup has no bench positions slated for offense. All of his extra roster spots are in pitching. I've been checking up on Sandoval and he could be out for 6-8 weeks so this guy will need a 3B player for at least 3 weeks (like i said he has no extra offensive players on his bench). Plus he has already hinted that he wished he had Votto on his team.

With the extra roster spots I would probably pick up another RP and a multi-position batter like Ryan Doumont who can play (C,OF). This way I have a fill in spot for the C position when Ruiz has a day off
