    John Axford

All closers are the same. A closer is only valued by his JOB SECURITY.

If you drop one closer and add another closer you still only have two closers. What does it matter? I could see you asking this question if you are going to up your total closers to three closers but if you are dropping one for another...it doesn't fucking matter. Do you think one of them is going to suddenly get 95 saves in a season?

    • Dick - this is not a question of passing on a potential contributor on offense for a closer. It is a question of which closers to select.

Your comment that "it does not matter" is wrong. Yes, it matters, since closers who fan 10 per 9 IP, sub-2.00 ERA, and stand to get your team 40+ saves are much more valuable than guys wobbling towards 28 saves and with a 4.00 ERA and low K rates (I'm looking at you, Chris Perez).

Particularly in roto it matters. Two closers logging 80 saves, a combined 1.95 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, 165 K's vs. three mediocre guys giving 85 saves, 3.55 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 200 K's ....

The first scenario gives me another roster spot. I don't need the third closer, for example. Meanwhile, the counting stats are solid. I can now add another SP'er or hitter with the extra roster spot due to the quality that the two closers give team.

      So, yes, it matters.

    • Obviously I don't think any closer is going to suddenly get 95 saves in a season and all closers are not the same.

Are you saying Craig Kimbrel is the same as Frank Francisco??

By your logic, it wouldn't be worth it to lose my #1 waiver priority to pick up Axford, while dropping Nathan.

However, your point about JOB SECURITY could be huge as Nathan is coming off a bad year and might not be the closer for the Rangers all season.
