Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I'd do it. And keep in mind I say that even though I don't buy into the huge hype Lawrie has. He has potential but not proven hardly anything outside of a small sample side - crappy players can have a month or less of a great run.
With that said... Cruz is a huge injury risk. He isn't gonna be stealing many bases. And his biggest assets - HR's and RBI's - aren't gonna do much if you can't play more than 120 games.
Player 1: .263/29 HR/87 RBI/64 Runs/9 SB - 40.6 Y! ADP
Player 2: .246/29 HR/98 RBI/69 Runs/4 SB - 215.3 Y! ADP
Player 3: .269/30 HR/80 RBI/69 Runs/0 SB - 133.1 Y! ADP
Player 1 is Cruz. Player 2 is Willingham, who has injury issues of his own but is fairly consistent. Player 3 is JJ Hardy, SS.

I don't disagree with the point you're trying to make, and of course due to the OP, yeah make the trade if you can use Lawrie, or trade him for a better OF than Cruz. The numbers in previous post are correct, I'm going to add abit more for perspective:
Cruz lifetime: 1 HR every 17.85 at bats, steals one base about every 13 times he gets on base. .270 hitter misses on average 42 games a year over the last 3 years.
Hardy lifetime: 1HR every 26.5 at bats, steals one base about every 170 times he gets on base. .264 hitter, misses on average 34 games a year (ignored 2006, missed most the whole season.)
Willingham lifetime: 1 HR every 20.5 at bats, steals one base about every 47.3 times he gets on base. .262 hitter. misses on average 33.5 games a year.
Gotta love numbers, just need to interpret them correctly, and more gives all of us a bigger picture, not that it changes anything.

If Cruz gave any indication that he could play 140 games, or that he could steal bases like he did in 2010, then no question he is the better player.
The problem is that Cruz is a .260 to .270 hitter with no stolen bases and chronic hamstring problems that will land him on the DL at some point.
I'd do it as well. I can't risk the injury for Cruz or Hamilton this year! Lawrie should be 20-20, might be 25-25, and 30-30 is remotely possible, this year. Your outfield depth will cover for not having Cruz, plus you'll free up a dl spot for someone else!
Don't dis Youk just because he had a bad year. The 3 previous years he was a 3B fantasy desireable in all scoring formats.
Ks once every 4.6 at bats
(misses at least 25 games a year though)
Not sure what you're expecting from Lawrie, but I'll buy you a beer if he can reach those stats this year.
If a keeper league, then of course make the trade.
