Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
Team A. Here is why:
Roto = IP limit
That means Verlander has significant value. A guy who fans 250 in 240 IP means a lot when you have a 1250 IP limit.
Further, Escobar is undervalued as a MI candidate. Good average, OBP, runs, double-digit HR's. No, he is not elite but championship teams have Escobar at MI rather than a black hole like Ryan Raburn.
Betancourt is a solid closer, but Valverde gives a reason for concern given his falling K rate. According to Fangraphs, Valverde velocity declined by 2 mph between 2009 and 2011.
A-Rod is a solid contributor (if healthy) and really the only reason the trade merits discussion.
Still like A's return.
Wow!! This is a tough one. The fact that side B is getting 2 closers in the deal tends to indicate he needs saves. However I definately prefer Verlander to Jair. When all is said & done I tend to prefer being the side getting the open roster spots, but this time I like side B despite that. Jair (if he can stay healthy) can produce solid numbers. ARod I believe will have a solid year. Crisp gives side B a huge shot in the arm in SB category. Plus 2 closers. I take side B.
I think it depends on team need I think Reynolds and Arod will practically cancel out this year
Verlander is by far the best player in the deal
but team B offers some very solid closers
I would take A because we know one thing for sure, Verlander will be beast
