Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I'm convinced I've got a problem with my catcher. He's been sitting a few games which isn't a big problem to me, but he's not really producing when he has been playing (except for that homerun he hit in the last game). He's been doing alright for a catcher I suppose. Playoffs start next week. There are a few options to me, here they are.
Anyone of those guys worth picking up for dropping Wieters?
I would drop him for JP or Martin, and possible Saltalamacchia....and this is coming from a diehard O's fan...literally. I was reluctant to drop him, but I finally pulled the trigger about a month ago and got Avila, which has been working out lately.
True - September has been his most productive month in his short career, but they are starting to give him more and more rest. According to local sports radio and the Baltimore Sun, they don't want him to start getting leg/knee issues and problems. So, he's going to probably play 4-5 games a week, considering they sit him one day and they have one off day typically. Also, you'll probably start seeing him play more and more 1st base as the season closes down....not that it would matter anyway. The guy is practically lights out defensively, as far as throwing out runners, blocking the plate, and calling games (he's been getting more chances now, after starting the season getting signals from the dugout). If defensive stats counting, he'd be a top-3 fantasy catcher, but unfortunately they don't....yet.
Sorry, I kinda went off with my two cents, but good luck with whatever you decide.

he hit another homerun last night...it could be that resting him has worked...maybe the O's have found themselves a new 1B?!
I hate it when players I think about dropping, suddenly do well and make me keep them. And then they start to suck again.
I think I will keep him, its kind of hard to drop someone who has hit a few homeruns (3) in the 7days...thanks for the advice...
the question for the O's is, would they ever consider converting him to a 1B to get more offense out of him (if he doesn't catch, he doesn't get as many knocks etc) or do they value his catching skills so much that they would forgoe his offensive skills whilst playing 1B or DH.
