Draft and Trade Talk Message Board

Thank you Jeter.
Jeter just said he won't be going to the all star game.

You know it's hard to get excited about the Jays after all these years....but man, there sure seem to be some nice pieces perculating in the minors...Lawrie, Gose, Stewat...hell Thames is up and proving he belongs...not feeling so good about Drebek though...I just hope we don't think we can do it when there's no chance and trade those prospects for tired old has beens.
-
Wells's contract was called untradeable, but they managed not only to trade him, but to get a couple of useful pieces in return.
I like what the Jays are putting together. Hopefully they can build a team that can knock off the Sox and Yanks while Bautista is still in his prime. I'd love to see that guy in the playoffs. -
He was backing up the cut off man. It's what a shortstop is supposed to do. When he saw the throw come in, he ran to where it would be if it was missed. It's not like he had some intuition to know where the ball was going to be. Many other shortstops would have made the same play, it's just not everyday that the rightfielder misses both cutoff men.
Griffey did not have the range, nor the arm to pull off a play like that. Go watch it again. Willie Mays is universally regarded as having the best range of any CF in history. He had to run all out to get it and if he had needed to dive, the run would have scored for sure. He ran it down, and in one motion threw it back to the infield. No just about no one else in history could do that. Find my one other play of anyone running down a ball and 420+ feet in CF and in one motion throwing a bullet back to the infield. -
he made it the right place, he went to the spot on the field, he wasnt just standing there, take a look at the replay, he saved the series with that play ...
andrew jones the only one ?... how about the kid, ken griffey jr.... the catch itself has been made by plenty of players in the negro leagues, more impresive plays, yes he was more athletic, but the whole thought process of getting to the right place... -
dude, omar, ozzie are top 2 all time

Jeter was in the right place at the right time, but it hardly took the ungodly amount of athletic ability to make the throw and catch that Mays did. He caught the ball deeper than most parks go in modern times while running full speed, spun around and threw back to the infield before anyone could score. Juan Pierre couldn't ever have made the play. He didn't have the range or the arm. Maybe Andruw Jones in his prime could, but that's really about it.
I've always been a lot more impressed by Jeter's dive into the stands catch than the flip play. -
Asdrubal should have been the starter anyway...hopefully for owners like me he goes on a massive tear in the 2nd half to prove it

Him, Peralta, and Yunel Escobar would all have been good choices.
-
Or Peralta. Both guys certainly have earned the spot over Jeter.
-
tell asdrubal to get off the roids...it was cool in the 90's

The problem with fielding % is that it completely ignores balls that the player did not get to. It is better to have a fielder who makes a lot of errors, but gets to a lot of balls than a fielder who gets to a much fewer number of balls but makes less errors.

You know finally a good baseball debate on these boards....I like it.

Actually 123...Troy, Omar, Rollins.
