The only ELITE SP'ers, as far as I am concerned, are Halladay, Kershaw, Lee, Lincecum, Weaver, Verlander and Hernandez. By elite, I mean worthy of a pick in the first 4 rounds.

But Greinke is a top notch SP'er, worth a 5th round pick. Know who agrees with me?

RotoChamp, which rates Greinke ahead of David Price and just behind Tim Lincecum.

Past 3 seasons, Greinke has averaged 14 wins, 3.33 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 208 K's.

Further, Greinke won 16 games, with a 1.20 WHIP, 201 K's and 3.83 ERA despite an unusually high HR's/FB rate in 2011, His xFIP ERA was 2.56. Further, he is a ground ball pitcher (1.54 GB/FB in 2011).

Those auger a very good year in 2012.

Sorry to interrupt your criticisms with FACTS.

    • good stuff.

since I do not usually target SP in the first few rds, as we get late into 5th or 6th round I would consider Greinke for sure.

But no, he's not cliff lee, or kershaw, etc.

    • I would add Josh Johnson to that elite list as well. Additionally, I would take me some Chacin, Fister, Pineda, Beachy/Hanson, Strasburg, DBard, Cueto, romero, Any of the Rays or Rangers for the mostpart, and a host of others at an equivalent place for a draft as I would Greinke. The Cy Young season created a great deception, but his wins have not been there since and probably won't be with the loss of Fielder and 50 games minus braun (about 10-12 Greinke starts). the Brewers are weaker, the Reds are stronger, the Cards are weaker, but still stronger than the Brew, the Bucs are stronger, the the Astros and Cubs will be bread and butter for pitchers like Greinke, but that doesn't amount to elevating him to elite status. With all the surplus pitching out there, Greinke checks in as a lower mid-rounder and does not warrant any higher of a pick.
