Okay, Adam Lind-panic-attackers:
You got me curious, so I looked up a few stats from last year, Lind’s “breakout” season. Remember how everyone was scrambling to grab him last April?
April ‘09: .315/13R/4HR/20RBI and 23 Ks
April ‘10: .286/15R/4HR/14RBI and 27 Ks
So, not a big variance. 4 extra Ks, 3 fewer hits. Fewer RBIs (absent hot Hills); more runs (thanks, hot Wells).
But you’re saying, “It’s not April I’m worried about! It’s his stone-cold May! Dude, he’s 3 for 40 (.075) with 11 Ks!”
Let’s look back at last year. In May ‘09 (good times!) Lind hit .264 with 20 Ks. This included a month-ending stretch in which he went — wait for it — 3 for 49 with, yes, 14 Ks.
Ergo, his last ten days of May in ‘09 were actually worse than his first ten days of May in ‘10.
Moral of the story: Don’t panic. He’s slumping. He will slump. All players slump. But this little run isn’t actually worse than anything he went through in his breakout ‘09 season.
P.S. He then hit .360 in June.
