J. Upton's perceived value is ridiculously inflated. The guy has had 1 quality season...1!
He has yet to:
hit 30 HR
drive in 100rbi
steal more than 20 bases
Yet everyone is drafting him top 12 players overall. I won't own Upton this year because I wouldn't touch him before the 3rd or 4th round -- way too much risk he goes back to becoming the .250 20HR guy that is stinking up your OF (A. Soriano anyone?).
I wouldn't touch either Upton brother. There is not a whole lot to like (other than BJs steals). Both had great weeks last week but that is the exception...not the norm. BJ has never had a great season IMO and Justin has only had one good season. Buying the inflated Justin Upton is like buying the hype on Carlos Quentin, Jay Bruce, and Drew Stubbs. People are buying upside potential and forgetting about their floors. I would rather have a Bobby Abreu or Todd Helton where I know the upside AND the floor are both higher than average.
I agree he's overhyped to a point. That point being this year. I don't really look for him to vault into the top 10 or 12 until next year or 2012. But he does have all the tools to become an elite, if not the elite OF.

Avg Pick #20... in a 12 teamer means he's near the end of the 2nd round. And you assume this is a little inflated because of the keeper/dynasty leagues where he should be going ahead of a lot of players because of his talent/age....
Get your facts str8 sir... before running your mouth about stuff you dont even take time to research...

From the responses on here it appears many of you are related to Upton by blood or have taken him as your lover.
There are much safer and better picks in the 1st and/or 2nd round than Upton -- it's that simple. I would rather have: Kinsler, Tulo, Holliday, Wright, Miggie, Adrian Gonzo ... you know players that have proved their worth year after year instead of a guy that will either blow up or crush your team.
I'll take Jay Bruce 8-10 rounds later.
Yeah, he had 1 quality season - in his first full season at the age of 21. He stole 20 bases last year BTW. It's probably a HUGE stretch that an incredibly talented 21 year old could possibly hit 4 more HR, have 14 more RBI and score 14 more Runs in his nect season. Clearly that's way out of the realm of possibility.
Upton put up amazing numbers last year for a 22 year old. He's valued high because he has so much upside. At worst, he might hit like he did last year, and if he does that won't hurt your team.
Your talking about him like he's some out-of-nowhere veteran you happened to have one good season. Upton has potential to be one of the best players in the MLB, he's a phenom.
